Astrology has been defined in the Vedas and is called Vedang Jyotish or the Vedic Astrology. There are four Vedas and six parts thereof – (1) Education, (2) Kalpa, (3) Grammer, (4) Chhanda, (5) Astrology, and (6) Trisookta.

Characteristics – As defined in Rigvedas:

Jyotishamdhanam sakshaad yattad gyanamateendriyam ! Praneetam bhawata men puman veda paravaram !!

The secret/unknown that is usually is not within the reach of the human senses, or what is controlled by the past or future, and the knowledge or experience that can reveal that entire unknown is called Astrology.

Shrimad Bhagwat Puraan says, unknown, unexplainable extraordinary power of the billions of Stars and Planets that controls the entire Universe and creates earthquakes, tsunami, tornadoes, snow storm, volcanoes, and turmoil in the lives of the common man has been experienced from time to time and the power to experience or understand has been provided by Astrology.

And, the effect of these speedy stars and planets, we consider and accept or believe as the good will or the gift of the God. This is the starting point of Astrology that is important for the society and the man kind to know all about.
